This half-day DIY course is for the complete DIY beginner who would love to know more about how to do DIY at home.

  • Do you feel that you ought to be able to tackle the DIY jobs on the list, but don’t know where to start?
  • Are you worried about using a drill?
  • Does fear of making mistakes, and not being able to sort them out, stop you getting started on DIY projects?

Well, this Beginners DIY Course will help you solve all those issues

What you will learn….

  • Introduce you to essential hand tools for DIY projects. You'll learn how to use them safely & effectively
  • Teach you to use battery-operated drills and drill drivers. You will have lots of hands-on practice.
  • Help you start to build your own DIY tool kit.
  • Show you how to plan a DIY project & take the first steps
  • Build your DIY confidence with lots of hands-on practice in a safe-learning environment.

What we provide……

We will provide all materials, tools etc. However, if you want to bring along your own tools, ongoing projects etc. then feel free to do so.

We also have hot drinks – tea, coffee etc. Feel free to bring your own additional refreshments, if you want to.

What should you bring……

We recommend wearing old clothing, and sturdy shoes.
If you would like to bring your own PPE (Personal Protectve Equipment), please feel free to do so. We will proide PPE, but we know that some people would prefer to use their own. (We recommend that you mark them up with your names, so that you can identify them)

What next?

We see Nailing it! as our entry-level course.

You will learn essential DIY knowledge and skills, which will give you the confidence  to go on to any of our other DIY courses.

Our  Drill down into Drilling course, directly follows on from this course, by building on the introduction to drills and drivers at the end of Nailing it!

Our DIY “Next Steps” Course puts all the knowledge into practice and teaches you how to put things up on walls.

You will also feel confident enough to join one of our DIY Clubs, and get as much out of the experience of practical collabration that they offer.

We are confident that you will go home with new DIY confidence, and raring to get on with some DIY tasks at home.

I attended the Nailing It Beginner's DIY course yesterday and really enjoyed it. It gave me confidence in understanding which tools I really need and which ones I can now get rid of from the collection I have as well as understanding how to hammer, drill and saw. Thank you Caroline for such an interesting morning.

I recently attended two classes as I was fed up with not feeling confident enough to try simple DIY tasks myself. I booked onto 'Nailing it' and 'Drill down into drilling'. Caroline was really patient,informative and helpful and I came away ready to start tackling these jobs myself. I will definitely be booking onto the next class.

What a great training session💯I did Nailing it! Back to basics - hammer-screwdrivers, screws, sawing, drills-Drills -what does a hammer drill do, what are the settings . What do I consider buying? What do I need to get started? I had hands on experience, great to practice and learn techniques that made using the tools efficiently. It’s not brute strength, it really is technique! Very inclusive and a safe space to ask those questions ✅ I learned what to use, when to use, why to use …and also practiced how to use. What do I need? I feel very confident in tackling my DIY. Caroline has many years of experience and uses her real life experiences for the training. Highly recommend this training as a great starting point and save money by DIY instead of paying for a handy person- DIY don’t do that😁

I attended the 'Nailing It' beginners DIY course, which was excellent. Really informative, just the right balance of knowledge-sharing and practical hands-on learning. Everything was very friendly and non-intimidating! I feel that I know so much more now, and have booked on to the follow-up course.

I've now been to two bePractical courses - the beginner's plumbing and the 'Nailing It' DIY course. I've learnt so much in just a few hours and it's enabled me to drill to put up my own pictures, shown me how to use different tools for the right jobs and really boosted my confidence in my ability to be able to do basic jobs around the house. The courses are suitable for total beginners like me and then you can move on to the next level courses. Many of them are just half a day and I guarantee you'll be rushing home to try out your skills!

I would just like to say a massive thank you to Caroline and especially Simon for giving me the opportunity to attend their plumbing courses. I need to update some of my radiators at home and after receiving several extortionate quotes from plumbers came across these courses and thought, what have I got to lose by doing the course. The very least I will have learnt enough to be able to talk to plumbers with some degree of knowledge I thought. However, the course was so hands on that I’m confident about replacing the radiators myself plus have future knowledge of pipework to be able to maintain or repair any future problems I have, or at least have a go. Would thoroughly recommend these courses to anyone.

Can’t recommend Be practical enough. Caroline and Simon make you feel at home immediately. There’s no judgement at all, just really useful advice and information. Not an iota of mansplaining in sight. I’m looking forward to the next session, and I’ll definitely be signing up for further classes.

I have attended two half-day courses at bePractical now and cannot recommend them highly enough. I was a complete DIY beginner when I went for the first time (DIY fundamentals course) and left feeling so empowered! As a result, I booked back in for a drilling workshop, which was equally as great. Caroline and Simon are both really knowledgable and make DIY accessible and completely un-intimidating. Both times I've attended, there's been a real friendly and welcoming environment and they are happy to answer any questions you might have - and that also goes beyond the workshop. Thank you!

These courses are fantastic! They’ve got lots of hands-on practice and crucially, lots of problem-solving to do, that can then be applied to your own home. Having attended just two of the plumbing workshops, I got some advice from Simon and replaced our poorly fitting Ikea sink waste and drainage with a lovely new McAlpine set (that shows no signs of leaking so far!)
