What Our Customers are Saying

FAQ

Who is the DIY “Next Steps” course for?

DIY “Next Steps” is ideal if you’ve already done our Nailing it! DIY Beginners Course or have some basic DIY experience and want to build your confidence with drilling and fixing things to walls. It’s for anyone who wants to move beyond the basics and start tackling real projects at home.

REMEMBER, if you book TWO or more Half-day courses at the same time, you get £10 off the cost of each course booked

Do I need to have done the Nailing it! course first?

You don’t have to have done Nailing it!, but it really helps. DIY “Next Steps” assumes you are comfortable using a drill and ready to move on to drilling into different types of walls and fixing things securely. If you’re a complete beginner, we recommend starting with Nailing it! DIY Beginners Course first.

What will I learn on DIY “Next Steps?

On DIY “Next Steps” you’ll get lots of hands-on drilling practice. You’ll learn how to drill into different types of walls, choose the right wall plugs and fixings, and put up things like shelves and hooks so that they stay put and are level.

It’s all about turning your basic drill skills into practical DIY results at home.

Is this course suitable for women?

Yes. bePractical DIY specialises in creating a relaxed, supportive space where women can learn DIY skills with confidence. DIY “Next Steps” is open to everyone, but many of our learners are women who want to feel confident using power tools and tackling projects on their own.

How long is the DIY “Next Steps” course and how much does it cost?

DIY “Next Steps” is a half-day, in-person course in Bristol and costs £80 per person. The price includes all tools and materials, plus tea, coffee and biscuits.

Can I do Nailing it! and DIY “Next Steps” on the same day?

Yes, you can book Nailing it! in the morning and DIY “Next Steps” in the afternoon on the same day. Many people choose to do both together. We offer a discount when you book two half-day DIY courses at the same time, but please remember it can be a full-on day with lots of new information and hands-on practice.

What should I bring?

We recommend wearing old clothing, and sturdy shoes. In the colder months, we suggest that these are warm, or layered. It can get cold in the Workshop.

If you have long hair, we strongly recommend that, for your own safety,  you keep it tied up while you are using any power tools.

If you would like to bring your own PPE (Personal Protectve Equipment), please feel free to do so. We will provide PPE, but we know that some people would prefer to use their own. (We recommend that you mark them up with your names, so that you can identify them)

If you already have a drill at home, but don’t feel comfortable using it, why not bring it along and use it on the course, so that you feel comfortable using it at home.

Do I need to bring my own tools or materials?

No. All tools and materials are provided for the DIY “Next Steps” course. If you’d like to bring your own drill or other tools so you can practise with them, you’re very welcome to do so and we’ll help you get the best from them.

What if I’m nervous or have never used a drill before?

That’s exactly why this course exists! We take it step by step, and you’ll have plenty of time to practise.

If you’re a complete beginner, and never picked a DIY tool up before, we recommend that you try out our Nailing it! DIY Beginners Course first, where you’ll get an all round introduction to picking up a drill for the first time.

REMEMBER, if you book TWO Half-day courses at the same time, you get £20 off the total cost
