FAQ

What kind of DIY skills will I learn in the DIY Club?

On our Beginners DIY Clubs and Women-only DIY Clubs, you’ll learn a range of practical DIY skills, from using tools safely to tackling common home repairs like drilling, hanging shelves, and basic plumbing.
On the Intermediate DIY Clubs, you will learn to use more Power Tools, as well as planning and implementing DIY projects

Each session is tailored to your needs.

Is the DIY Skills Club suitable for complete beginners?

Absolutely! Our DIY Skills Club is designed with beginners in mind. You don’t need any previous experience, just a willingness to learn and have a go.

Is the DIY Skills Club only for women?

We offer a Women-only DIY Skills Club as well as an Inclusive Beginners DIY Club, and an Intermediate DIY Club.

Our aim is to create a supportive, confidence-building environment for everyone.

How many people are in each DIY Skills Club session?

We keep our DIY Skills Club groups small—usually 4 to 5 people, so you get plenty of hands-on support and time to ask questions.

Do I need to buy any tools or materials before attending?

All tools and materials are provided for your DIY Skills Club sessions. Just bring yourself and any DIY questions or projects you want help with!

What should I bring?

We recommend wearing old clothing, and sturdy shoes. In the colder months, we suggest that these are warm, or layered. It can get cold in the Workshop.

If you have long hair, we strongly recommend that, for your own safety,  you keep it tied up while you are using any power tools.

If you would like to bring your own PPE (Personal Protectve Equipment), please feel free to do so. We will provide PPE, but we know that some people would prefer to use their own. (We recommend that you mark them up with your names, so that you can identify them)

If you already have a drill at home, but don’t feel comfortable using it, why not bring it along and use it on the course, so that you feel comfortable using it at home.

Can I join if I already have some DIY experience?

Definitely! We have Beginners and Intermediate DIY Skills Clubs, so you can choose the group that’s right for your skill level.

What if I’m nervous or have never used a drill before?

That’s exactly why this course exists! We take it step by step, and you’ll have plenty of time to practise.

If you’re a complete beginner, and never picked a DIY tool up before, we recommend that you try out our Nailing it! DIY Beginners Course first, where you’ll get an all round introduction to picking up a drill for the first time.

REMEMBER, if you book TWO Half-day courses at the same time, you get £20 off the total cost

How do I book, and where are you based?

You can book online at bePractical DIY Booking Site.

We’re based in Bristol, but people come from all over the country for our DIY courses. We’re easy to get to by car or train, and run courses on Fridays and Saturdays to make it worthwhile for people travelling from further afield.

All our courses have small group classes for lots of personal attention.

How much do the DIY Skills Clubs cost?

The cost for all our DIY Clubs is £100, for the full 4-week term. The price includes use of all tools and materials. We also provide Tea, Coffee & Biscuits. Please feel free to bring any of your own refreshments.

Can I buy this DIY Course as a gift?
